6 dating tips that every university student should be aware of

written by Imo David

When it comes to dating at university, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all experience. They are, nevertheless, one of the ideal moments in your life for exploration, experimentation, and growth. Whether you choose to date casually or engage into a committed relationship, I can offer some beneficial suggestions to assist you make this decision.

1. Do not cut yourself off from the rest of the world the moment you start dating someone.
While there is nothing wrong with entering a serious relationship, dating someone frequently takes priority over spending time with friends and family. We must learn to balance our time because there are so many things to do while at university!

If you decide to settle down too soon, you may miss out on a lot. Even if you are in a relationship, it is critical to maintain contact with friends and family that care about you.

2. Be in a relationship that brings you joy.
University is a moment in our lives when we might change dramatically as individuals in a few of months. This can also result in some couples becoming into different personalities. One thing to remember is to be open to ideas that may be uncomfortable to discuss.

Being honest about your own feelings is the best way to build a long-lasting relationship, and never date someone who makes you feel uncomfortable or sad.

3. It is totally acceptable not to keep your scheduled date. 24/7
Remember that we are all unique individuals who deserve to enjoy two distinct and satisfying lives. A mature, stable relationship allows for personal growth and enjoyment. If one partner is being too clingy, it will often work out being an unhealthy relationship and will end up suffocating the other. Allow some time for personal growth and enjoy your social life at university while dating!

4. The end of a relationship does not mean the end of your romantic life.
It is natural to be disappointed when your relationships fail. Spend some time on movies and sad songs or even sleep as long as you want! I suggest viewing failure as an experience and learn to forgive as this can help you feel free and to truly get over a failed relationship. Rushing into a new relationship to make your ex jealous will not work.

5. Make sure that you love yourself before getting in a relationship
University is a great time to practice self-love. Do not forget to fall in love with yourself first in any circumstances. Remember, you do not need someone to like you to make yourself feel good.

Unless you find yourself actually liking that person and you’re looking to get into a relationship, you do not need to force yourself into one! I promise dating is not something that you must check off your bucket list at university.

Dating can help you learn how to love and compromise, balance school with relationship and be honest and open with thoughts which I think is a great experience to look back on in your future lives.

However, if you have not been in a relationship before, do not rush into one. Go embrace your singleness and let milestones happen naturally.
